White Mulberry
Ready to harvest

White mulberry (Morus alba) is a fast-growing tree bearing sweet, mild berries, traditionally grown to feed silkworms. They can take anywhere between 20 and 50 years to mature!
What it's used for
These berries can be eaten fresh, dried, or cooked into jams and syrups. Possessing a very mild flavour compared with blackberries, mulberries work well when mixed with sharper fruits.
Grow your own at home
White mulberry needs moist but well-drained soil, a sunny, sheltered spot, and space to reach a good size. It will grow well in most soils once it has established itself.
It’s best to plant it as bare-root trees in winter.
The berries ripen from July to August. To harvest them, lay a sheet beneath the tree and shake, as they drop when ripe. Be careful, as they bruise easily.
